Hurricane the storm is projected to become a rare highest-level hurricane as it shifts towards Jamaica, causing deadly sudden floods and rock falls.

The cyclone, which had wind speeds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is presently veering northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is anticipated to make landfall by Tuesday, as reported by weather experts.

Warnings of blackouts and damage to infrastructure have been announced as the hurricane produces up to thirty inches of rainfall and storm surges as high as 13ft above ground. "Find safe refuge immediately," locals have been told.

The cyclone is the 13th cyclone in this year's Atlantic season, which typically ends in late autumn.

Highest-Level Cyclone Threat

A highest-level cyclone is the strongest type, with winds of at least 252 km/h.

Although the hurricane is set to diminish in strength to a category four storm before arriving at the island, experts said there was "very little practical difference in the total effects" upon landfall, and that the storm will be "just as powerful" when it strikes the island.

Critical Preparations

With storm-force winds and rain anticipated well in advance ahead of it crosses Jamaica's central region - possibly even the city of Kingston - alerts emphasize that "readiness efforts must be accelerated".

"A multi-day period of harmful winds and heavy rainfall have begun and will cause severe and deadly flash flooding and multiple mudslides," urged weather authorities.

Jamaican Prime Minister the statesman stated: "I understand that there are countless citizens who are worried, who are extremely apprehensive, and appropriately: you should be concerned.

"But the optimal approach to address worry and any unease and concern is to remain prepared."

Residents are being told to fortify their houses with protective bags and wooden boards, and to accumulate essentials.

Wider Effects

Alerts are also active for regions of the neighboring country encompassing the capital, Port au Prince, the adjacent nation and Cuba's eastern region, where this storm is expected to bring analogous consequences by the middle of next week.

Landslides currently triggered by the cyclone have caused two deaths in Haiti, according to local authorities.

Projected Path

The hurricane is predicted to move across Cuba by the middle of the week before moving through the Antillas Mayores and entering the Atlantic Ocean.

By the point it makes contact with Cuba, it is predicted to have weakened to a Category 3 hurricane.

Weather Background

Even though it is hard to connect individual weather events to climate change, researchers say it is resulting in weather phenomena more common and more intense.

Warmer oceans generate more moisture in the atmosphere, contributing to the formation of tropical cyclones.

Prior to the commencement of this season's Caribbean cyclone season, climate agencies forecast higher-than-average occurrence, referencing warmer seas and likely more intense weather patterns around African coastal regions - where Atlantic storms often form.
