Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport After Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage

Air travel have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended because of an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

However, significant disruption are expected to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the current status on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

Officials linked the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Passengers should still plan to confirm the details of their trip before departing to the terminal as backlogs are managed.
